Question: Irrigation?
Ok guys, A simple question, with a probably not so simple answer. How does everybody who has a larger garden get that precious water to their veggies? Hand Carry, Soaker hoses, sprinklers, maybe even a drip system?

Re: Question: Irrigation?
Drip and soaker hoses...but don't buy them at the local Walmart or Lowe's. You can get a whole lot more hose for your $$ at a landscape or garden supply place. Google something like 'landscape irrigation system'.

Re: Question: Irrigation?
flood irrigation between the rows works very well but you need to have the
rows mounded to canal the water where you want it and you need fairly level field otherwise the water will run to fast and carry away soil and not soak in also works well for low pressure and "dirty water" |
Re: Question: Irrigation?
I'm actually installing a drip system later today. Last year I just setup a sprinkler; but that was too wasteful and a PITA.

Re: Question: Irrigation?
In the desert where I live the annual precipitation is 7". We have lawns only with irrigation. I am in an irrigation district and my garden is watered with sprinklers on the same timer that the lawn sprinklers are. We are delivered 4 ft of water per year in the 6 month irrigation season. Lawn and garden typically do not require the full 48" available.
I tried using soaker hoses with the irrigation water. The irrigation water is so dirty, it plugged the hoses within one day. |
